ATAS

ATAS® (Adaptive Thermal Analysis System) is an innovative system for process-control of grey and ductile iron. It is based on advanced thermal analysis combined with artificial intelligence technology and allows the foundry to reduce casting defects, improve yield and reduce variations in physical properties. It is also a great tool for increasing metallurgical competence.

ATAS® is a knowledge-based computer system for optimization, quality assurance and correction of the melting and treatment processes for cast iron alloys. An expert system is used to interpret the information obtained from the cooling curves.
The system consists of a PC connected to an A/D converter and a stand for test cups. The expert system gives the user access to specialized metallurgical advice.
ATAS® opens a new "window" into the process and provides new knowledge about essential parameters.

It is possible to optimize the process and also use ATAS® as a quality assurance tool. ATAS® increases the metallurgical knowledge in the foundry. The result is reduced casting defects, increased yield and reduced variations in physical properties. The return on investment is often less than 6 months.
